Filming in Mozambique

 Back   Print  Bookmark

Mozambique is not new to the world of film and over the last couple of years Mozambique has hosted some of the largest productions shot in Southern Africa.

Its not surprising when you look at the diversity Mozambique  has to offer. Maputo, the centre of this hub is a city that pulses with a fusion of African and European cultures. The buildings and the streets can tell a thousand stories on there own.

Architecture that cannot be found in many places anymore is everywhere. From Ilha De Mozambique in the North to Catembe in the South. The buildings and their history are locations waiting to be found. Some of these old towns and forts give you the feeling that you are on the set of the Next Pirates Of The Caribbean.

The town of Beira in Central Mozambique bosts some of the most spectacular buildings in the Southern Hemisphere. Avant Garde churches, sport stadiums, government buildings and a multitude of European style streets and shops.

The fauna and Flora of Mozambique has been broken into three different zones. Dense forest lands in the North and centre of the country, woodland and Savanha in the South and Mangrove forests along the coast.

For the Wildlife and documentary filmmakers, there are not many to top Mozamabique. The waters off Mozambique in particular the Inhambane region is renowned for one of the largest populations of juvenile Whale Sharks and Manta Rays in the World. Every year between June and November the coast of Mozambique also hosts the annual Humpback migration.

These fantastic creatures can very often be seen breaching in the numerous bays dotted along this coastline. The reef systems are vast and well stocked . Mozambique attracts divers and underwater enthusiasts for all over the world.

The numerous Game Reserves in Mozambique are slowing coming back after the devestation caused by the civil war in the 70`s. There are large projects underway to restock and look after these fantastic areas that are still very wild.

Niassa in the North of Mozamabique is one of the wildest places left on earth, were animals like elepahant, hippo and lion still roam free.

With a fair amount of interest being shown towards Mozambique as a film destination , the country is gearing towards assisting producers. The Mozambican film commission or INAC ,  is the local authority that deals with all filming activities in Mozambique.

INAC , has been around for a good number of years is becoming in tune with the needs of the international film makers. All permits and accreditations are run through this office.
